PRP for Face Rejuvenation

Stimulate collagen and elastin

Treatment overview

PRP Treatment for Face Rejuvenation

The PRP is an injectable system for smoothing skin and restoring lost volume, subtly and naturally. It is a product that stimulates collagen and elastin. Some people refer to it as the “Vampire Facelift” because a small amount of the patient’s blood is taken, and then spun to separate the platelets and plasma from the red and white blood cells.

By adding a precise amount of calcium chloride, a gel-like matrix is created and injected back into the areas that you want corrected. Kim Kardashian’s on-screen experience of receiving a ‘Vampire Lift’ facial treatment created a stir about this cosmetic procedure.

How it works

PRP Therapy Uses Your Blood’s Natural Healing Properties

PRP therapy is a form of regenerative medicine, which takes advantage of the blood’s natural healing properties. The procedure involves extracting and isolating platelets and plasma from a sample of your own blood, and then we concentrate it into a healing solution. It then gets injected back into your body at (and around) the point of injury or pain.

This precious liquid can be injected into the dermis to build collagen and improve the structure of the skin. It penetrates the dermis and increases the efficacy of the treatment.

When the growth factors interact with local cells, they trigger the cells to heal the injury. This promotes tissue formation and reduces inflammation. The PRP treatment may also provide a lubricating factor and is  used in a wide variety of medical specialties. Today PRP helps patients heal faster and avoid more radical or invasive treatments.

The treatment experience

Planning Your PRP Treatment

As with all treatments at our clinic, we require a preliminary consultation with a member of our highly qualified staff. During this time, we will review your concerns, treatment expectations, current skincare regimen, price estimates, and a brief overview of your relevant medical history. We use this information to ensure we are able to give you the results you are looking for with realistic expectations.

As mentioned, we will take a sample of your blood. We will then  seal your blood sample in a container and place it in a centrifuge. The device then spins at high speeds so that the blood sample separates plasma from the red and white blood cells. We then extract the plasma and prepare it for your treatment.

Our Process

Your Guide to PRP Therapy

Step 01

Before the Treatment

Before your PRP treatment, you need to do the following:

  • Prior to injection, please notify us if you have a rash or infection near or at the planned injection site as we will need to reschedule your treatment
  • Anti-inflammatories and ASA should be avoided in the 7 days prior to treatments
  • To minimize post-treatment bruising and bleeding, avoid red wine, Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, and other blood thinners the day before the treatment
  • Avoid drinking red wine 2 days before treatment
  • Avoid taking the following 1 week before your PRP treatment: Don quai, evening primrose oil, ginkgo leaf, ginger, garlic, ginseng, and feverfew
  • Tylenol is OK to use, but please notify us if you are using prescription or non-prescription blood thinners
  • Please avoid caffeine the day of your PRP treatment for more comfort

Step 02

During the Treatment

Dr. Frame or his trained phlebotomy staff will collect one small tube of blood. Next, the sample is placed in a centrifuge where it is spun and the plasma is separated from the rest of the blood. The PRP is then extracted from the tube and prepared for treatment. There may be some temporary discomfort during the PRP injections, and occasional redness and bruising immediately following the treatment that resolves quickly. A numbing cream is applied to increase the comfort during your PRP treatment.

Step 03

After the Treatment

Avoid touching the treated areas for at least 8 hours. Common and temporary side effects may include bruising, swelling, itching and/or discomfort that may last up to 5 days. If you experience pain or discomfort, Tylenol may be used as directed. Ice application should be avoided due to its reduction of inflammation. Additionally, after your PRP treatment, blood thinning substances and \direct sun exposure should be avoided for 7 days following the procedure. You should also ensure you are hydrated and maintain a healthy diet.

Frequently Asked Questions

You should not have a PRP treatment if:

  • You have an infected area of where the PRP injections will treat
  • You are breastfeeding or pregnant
  • You have any of the following conditions:
  • Active facial cancer
  • Chemotherapy, immunosuppressive or steroid therapy
  • Blood and clotting disorders, platelet abnormalities or deficiencies (thrombocytopenia)
  • Anticoagulation therapy (i.e. Warfarin)
  • Sepsis, chronic liver disease, hepatitis or any severe acute or chronic infections

The entire procedure takes about 30-40 minutes to perform.

The number of treatments needed depends on each individual patient and the desired outcome. As a stand-alone therapy, Dr. Gidon Frame recommends a series of three injection sessions spaced from four to six weeks apart for optimal results. A yearly follow-up treatment is also recommended to maintain your results.

There is virtually no risk of allergic reaction and no allergic reactions have been reported to date. The PuraPlas System is used to rapidly collect and isolate a patient’s own PRP for injection and contains no animal or synthetic products.

Common and temporary side effects may include bruising, swelling, itching and/or discomfort that may last up to 5 days.  If you experience pain or discomfort, Tylenol may be used as directed. Ice application should be avoided due to its reduction of inflammation.

There may be some temporary discomfort during the injections, and occasional redness and bruising immediately following the treatment that resolves quickly. A numbing cream is applied to increase the comfort of the treatment.

The amount of social downtime depends on the area being treated. If you are treating your tear trough area, are over 45 and have loose skin, you can count on 2-3 days of extreme swelling. The best method is to ‘flood’ the area with your platelets which can mean a full 3 cc syringe under each eye, creating a pocket of fluid that will disperse over several days. All other areas may have 1-2 days of minor swelling and or, bruising.

Although there may be some noticeable improvement once the initial swelling goes down, it can take up to 3 months for the collagen to grow and full results are seen.

The longevity of the results of PuraPlas® treatments vary based on the extent of the procedure, areas treated, and the number of sessions. Most patients report their results lasting from 1-4 years. Healthy lifestyle and proper skin care are also keys to maintaining and extending your results.

After your PRP treatment, you should do the following:

  • Do not touch or massage the treated area, especially if you have PuraPlas placed under your eyes. The platelets will absorb slowly over the next few days
  • If you have had PuraPlas ‘painted’ on the surface of your skin as in after a Halo Laser treatment, do not wash your face until the next morning if possible
  • You may wash your face, use makeup and return to your normal activities the day after you have had the treatment
