Which Dermal Filler is Best?

Which dermal filler is best?

Though many  of our Vancouver filler treatment patients ask “Which dermal filler is best?”, there really is no one-type-fits-all filler. The best dermal filler is determined by many factors, including: the area of the face being treated, state of your skin, desired result, and how long you are willing to wait for that result.

Because each part of the face has unique characteristics, dermal fillers come in various thicknesses, especially formulated to target a specific area. Cheeks, for example, need a good deal of “plumping” so thicker fillers might be best. If you are dealing with lines and folds or enhancing your lips, you would want to use something thinner or the thinnest kind of filler to just give your lips a subtle, gloss effect.

These fillers are all made with hyaluronic acid—a substance which occurs naturally in your body  (about 15 grams for every 154 lbs of body weight).

After asking you what type of result you are hoping for (such as how much volume you are comfortable with) our Cosmetic Consultant and Dr. Frame and YOU, will help make these decisions.

If it’s your first time, you may opt for a thinner filler that lasts for 6 months in case you aren’t thrilled with the look (although that almost never happens). However, if you are a cosmetic warrior like most of us here at Anti-Aging Medical Laser Clinic, you’ll want the filler that will give you optimal results that last as long as possible.

If you are trying to rejuvenate a sunken look in your mid-face or temples, then a collagen stimulator would be an excellent choice and the results can last for years.

Some dermal fillers can last more than a year as they contain calcium-based microspheres that stimulate your own collagen to grow.  So this is where the timing comes in, as some dermal fillers will take time to work with your collagen. So, if you want instant results, you may be advised to stick with the hyaluronic acid fillers.

For a quick rejuvenation of tear troughs, Dr. Frame tends to recommend a very thin filler which can be injected and easily spread for a soft, natural result under thin skin.

If the skin itself is very crepey, then you might want to consider  multiple treatments of PuraPlas to put your own Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in your tear troughs to help improve the integrity of the skin as well as generate subtle volume.

The good news is, you don’t have to memorize all of this before your appointment.

Everything will be taken into consideration, including your budget and our recommendations. Every face is different and each of our patients receives customized care and treatment from our experienced staff and doctor. So…relax, you’re in good hands!
