The Nefertiti Lift: How to Contour Your Jawline and Soften Jowls

One of the most underrated non-invasive, cosmetic treatments, in my opinion, is the Nefertiti lift.

It was named after Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, known for her beauty, long neck and contoured jawline.

As we age, the platysmal bands in our necks shorten and pull on the jawline. This causes the young angle of our neck to be compromised and can also give us a”jowly” appearance. What we want is to lengthen the bands and improve the appearance of the neck and jawline.

This is achieved by placing tiny, multiple injections of neuromodulators into the neck cords (platysmal bands) and the jawline to re-define the jawline and thin the face. It works by relaxing the muscles, lengthening them so they ‘pull in’ the jowls. Now that may sound gruesome but it isn’t at all, in fact, you can hardly feel it.

If you have a very wide and strong jaw, you can put anywhere from 15-30 units on each side to soften and narrow the actual width of your jaw. These muscles are very strong on some people and are built up from chewing, talking and night grinding. Relaxing them just enough to decrease the overall width will give you a softer, more feminine facial structure. (Bonus-It can also make you look as though you’ve lost weight.)

For people with prominent neck cords, injecting just the cords themselves will result in a softer, ‘less muscled’ neck.

Muscle relaxing injections into the jawline and upper neck create an upward movement of the skin. The Nefertiti Lift provides a sharper–looking jawline border and often uplifts the corners of the mouth.

It takes about 20 minutes and bruising, although always possible, isn’t as common in these areas as it is in say, the crow’s feet area, for example.

As a fair amount of product can be used, (30-80 units) you might think of this as the extra treat you give yourself a few times a year.

Are there any drawbacks?

You want to make sure you are going to an experienced injecting doctor. Putting too much in the wrong area could lead to problems chewing or swallowing so doing your research is important. Dr. Gidon Frame has been doing this procedure for many years and knows exactly where to put the product for the safest and best results.
