It’s the ‘Doing it’ That Counts, Not the Weight Loss

Are you someone who feels, “What’s the point of a little exercise, I’m not sweating up a storm or even losing any weight”?

It turns out there IS a point! A new study has revealed that just 75 minutes of brisk walking per week will gain you 1.8 years of life expectancy!

Now if that’s all you can manage, then great, but if you think you can work up to 150 minutes of brisk walking per week you might even get 3.4 to 4.5 years more time on this planet. The best part is, you’ll be healthier and able to do more of the things you love.

The analysis, published in PLOS Medicine, pooled self-reported data on physical activities and body mass indexes (BMIs) — a ratio of weight to height — from some 650,000 people aged 40 and older enrolled in one Swedish and five US studies.

The study concluded that if you don’t exercise, your life will be shorter no matter what you weigh. Of course, it makes sense that they also concluded that the same amount of moderate exercise will gain you more years if you are in the normal weight range than if you are obese…but hey lets just start with getting up to that 75 minutes per week shall we?
